Understanding & Painting Abstraction |
| What is the purpose of abstractions and how do you realize your concept? "Abstraction is something that summarizes or concentrates the essentials of a large thing or several things." So Sayeth Webster. So Sayeth Samuelson. This 18 hour, 3 day workshop, instructed by Fred Samuelson, will have an exciting appeal experimenting with various painting surfaces using watercolors or acrylics. The workshop will progress from sketch development through the elimination of perspective without the loss of representational images. Students will learn to identify the subject and emphasize it... a path to perfect painting! You will also be instructed on how to redesign your image and use personal color. Students are asked to bring sketches and material to use in their painting. A materials list will be provided upon registration, and a one hour lunch break will be taken from 12 - 1pm on each day of the workshop.

One of the greatest teachers is the human form. You can never say, 'This time I really know what I'm doing.' It's everchanging and constantly challenging. In this 3 day, 18 hour workshop taught by Rose Ann Samuelson, not only will you improve your painting skills but you will learn how to develop your imagination. Rose Ann will instruct you in placing your figure in a scene to tell a story. There will be no live nude model, however the instructor will provide enough photos for each person to choose 3 or 4 to work from. The idea is not to simply illustrate. This workshop will distance you from the subject matter, making the image more complex. The figure will be drawn or painted in a situation rather than a pose. Students will be free to work with whatever media they choose, but please bring your supplies with you. No need to worry about packing up those portable easels though, we have plenty to use here at the gallery.
"Painting is a constant struggle, striving endlessly to understand composition, wiping out, starting over, experimenting with new ideas, never leaving behind the most important element...good drawing." |

Whether you've already had an introductory PMC class, or a more advanced one, this 6-week session makes the perfect gift for you or anyone! We've had so many requests for different levels of PMC training that Linda Kline has offered to dedicate Wednesdays to us starting in June!
Precious Metal Clay (PMC) has revolutionized jewelry making. This user-friendly medium, which looks, acts and feels like clay is, in reality, pulverized granules of pure silver (.999). New students will learn basic techniques to manipulate the clay to produce exquisite jewelry designs of pure, fine silver (.999), including pendants, earrings, rings, and beads. Returning students are invited to use this class as an open studio for independent study to fire and finish their designs with the benefit of having a senior certified PMC instructor availalble to answer any questions. The instructor will collect a materials fee of $100 (subject to change with the cost of silver) at the first class session, which includes a basic tool kit and enough silver to complete at least three jewelry designs. Additional silver will be available for sale during the class. A different technique/jewelry project will be covered each week.
COST: $150.00 per person for the entire 6 weeks, which includes a $20.00 non-refundable |

This is a color theory workshop with a focus in painting. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned artist, this workshop will give you practice mixing and better understanding color. Do your paintings look flat? It's probably because you're not exercising the power of complimentary colors - We'll teach you these terms and definitions, the color wheel, color tricks and their psychological, personal, and emotional implications. The gallery has plenty of easels onsite, so you won't have to lug yours with you! You'll be able to try oils, acrylics or watercolors. The course assumes you can quickly sketch a simple still life setup as a prerequisite.
Week 1: Color theory & mixing practice
Weeks 2, 3, & 4: You will paint a different still life each week that enforces concepts learned in week one. We're not looking for realism, we're looking for speed and pushing the color!
