Manuel Zapata Orihuela was an instructor of painting and one of the greatest influences to Peruvian art students at the National Superior School of Beaux Arts in Lima, Peru in the 1940s and 50s. One of his students was Tilsa Tsuchiya who is one of the most well-known Latin American surrealist. Zapata-Orihuela was best known for his realistic paintings using saturated colors. The themes presented in his work were often of the indigenous people of Peru. This piece is untitled and is a step away from the artist's common style.The painting contains influences of the Brazilian style of anthropofagia where the artist would consume everything around them to create something which was completely unique.
