Humareda Pueblo Joven

Born in Lampa (Puno), Peru in 1920, Victor Humareda graduated from the National Superior School of Beaux Arts of Lima in 1947. From his master teachers, he learned the importance of color as an aesthetic value. While he travelled abroad, he always returned to Peru because he missed his own world: his room number from the Lima Hotel of La Victoria district, the people of his trashy neighborhood, a cockfight at the Sandia Coliseum, a bullfight in the middle of October and visits to the port. Eduardo Moll called him "the last of the bohemians." Humareda’s paintings are of images sometimes gloomy, always mocking. They are images expressed with violence, sincerity, with the soul put in the painting. One or two flashes of vibrance, breaks the gloom of his color palette.

Humareda created many expressionistic paintings during his life and they can be found in private collections around the world. This work is entitled "Pueblo Joven" or Young Village and has a gold and white frame. It measures 31" x 23" and is priced at $13,500.00. Works of art by Victor Humareda belong to the Nation's Cultural Patrimony meaning that the pieces of his that are sold in Peru may no longer leave the country.
