Are the shows you're trying to enter no longer accepting slides? We can help!

To stay competitive in the art show circuit, it has become a necessity to have high-quality digital images of your work. Slides are a thing of the past, and the new standard for art show applications is to upload digital images right onto the Internet. With art jurying systems such as Zapplication, JAS, & CaFÉ, the staff at LoPressionism Gallery & Fine Art Center knows that the application process can be a bit overwhelming if you're a novice to the digital world.

No Computer Experience? - That's Okay!

We know first-hand from our own workshops that many artists are not computer saavy at all. That's no problem! Our process begins with a phone interview so we can ascertain your exact needs. That's right, you'll get to talk to a real human who is a degreed art professional, so if you don't know how to upload digital images or if you don't even have digital images, we'll figure out the best way to help you. Even if you have to mail us some photographs or slides, that's okay! We can mail a CD back to you and even upload your images for you. See the "How to make it happen" section below.

Zapp, JAS & CaFÉ, are currently the most popular web-based digital jurying services. They allow prospective exhibitors to apply online to a number of craft fairs and art shows all across the nation. Many organizations are choosing to jury artists' work via digital images instead of slides, because of the ease of jurying and the wider selection of exhibitors these systems provide for show administrators. The web-based services allow artists to enter contact information, upload digital images of their artwork, and enter a number of open calls at one time, eliminating your cost of duplicating slides and saving you the time mailing individual packets.

We have the expertise!

Our impressive coupling of art show knowledge with technology skills allows us to provide the quality and understanding that few other service entities can match...

Because our staff has experience administering, judging and jurying art shows & fine art exhibitions, we have ample knowledge of each of these digital jurying systems. We even teach a one-day workshop on photographing your work, formatting your images, and applying to art shows that use these services! (For more information on this workshop, "Going Digital for Artists", click here). We are also very fortunate in that our managment team members have experience as graphic designers and in computer technical support, so we have extensive Photoshop knowledge and understand the professional level that judges seek.

$20.00 - What a bargain!

$20.00 will get you one image redigitized to the very specific requirements of Zapp, JAS or CaFÉ & e-mailed back to you. For an extra $5.00 per image, we will also provide you with a CD-R of the image(s), and upload it to your on-line portfolio for one or all three of these jurying systems. This pricing is the same for photographs, slides or digital images.

2 Dimensional Sample
The image on the left has too much yellow saturation, and is photographed at a slight angle. In the image on the right, we've fixed the glare, got truer color and sized it to 1920 px by 1920 px, ready for online submission!

3 Dimensional Sample
Sparkling jewelry has lots of specular highlights to deal with. The image on the left is washed out with too much light and has a distracting background. On the right we've sharpened the detail, bumped up the contrast and made a solid background.

Helpful tips:

If you plan to send us photos that you are going to take yourself, here are some photo-taking tips:

  • Use a good digital camera that shoots at least 5 megapixels.
  • Always use a tripod to steady your shot. A cable-release is preferred for optimum camera stability.
  • If you are not using a digital camera, film developers can convert camera film into digital images and copy them onto a disk for you.
  • It is best to photograph your 2-D work against a black background.
  • Try to level the center of your artwork with the center of your camera lens.
  • Remove any piece under glass to eliminate shadows and reflections.
  • 3-D art can be shot inexpensively using seamless background paper (gray, black or white) rolled out on a table and supported above the table 3-4 feet high.

IIf you plan to have your work photographed professionally, we recommend and use fine art photographer Brian Abrahamson. His website is www.brianmarkstudio.com.
