Art Appreciation
YOU CALL 'THAT' ART!?
Thank you all for coming out to our very first Art Appreciation and High Tea. We had a lot of fun and hope that you did too! We covered a wide range of topics from Michelangelo to Jackson Pollock. LoPressionism Gallery presents the FREE “You Call THAT Art?!” on the 3rd Saturday of each month! For our next discussion, we would like to be more specific in our topic. We will focus on Cave Art, Byzantine, and Gothic Art. Learn about the birth of art, who began creating it and its original purpose. Lord Ravenswood Hall will be providing the tea and goodies. Bring any questions you may have on this period in art history (or any other one) and we will do our best to get you some answers on why we call IT art! To RSVP for June 20th call (321) 722-6000 or e-mail us here.

Liz, Angela & Bianca
ASK THE "GALLERINAS"
We had so much fun & such a great turnout at our first art appreciation discussion hosted here at the gallery, that we have decided to expand our "DaVinci Decoders" section of the newsletter to a question & answer venue! Here is a place where you can "Ask The Gallerinas" anything you like about art! We will research and answer your questions to the best of our abilities putting our three art degrees to good use! (See mom & dad, that money WAS well spent at UF & UCF!!) Liz & Bianca have degrees in Art History and possess the secrets of the art world bestowed upon them by the deans of the art department at the University of Central Florida, and Angela is "Gator," degreed in the technical aspects of painting & illustration (plus we have a secret Art Library!)
So, if you have any questions relating to the art world, a particular piece, or artist let us know. There is no question sillier than the ones WE had to ask to get those darn degrees! Check the Newsletter every month to see if your question is the one published. Send questions by clicking here.

3/50 PROJECT
LOCAL ECONOMICS
Regardless of what the media says, WE CAN help stimulate the economy. Putting a halt on spending also puts a halt on the economy, so forget all the news spread to worry consumers. It only takes $50 a month spent locally to help! Did you know that 68% of what you spend at independently owned stores returns to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenses? Only 43% returns to the community when spent in a chain. This does not mean spend $50 all at once in one store (but if you can, great!). The goal is to funnel money into our local businesses. So instead of getting your coffee at a chain, visit a locally owned coffee house, have lunch at an independent restaurant, or choose to shop downtown for gift items. Cinda Baxter has created the 3/50 Project.
It is simple, pick 3 locally owned businesses that you would hate to see gone, go inside and pick up something that makes you smile. "If just half of the employed U.S. population spent $50 each in independently owned businesses, their purchases would generate $42.6 billion in revenue." For more information on the 3/50 Project visit the350project.net. /td>
Do you have a fine-art joke or poem you'd like to share? Click here & send it to us!
