MAKING MUSEUMS MORE ACCESSIBLE In a recent article from ARTnews many art museums across the country have been changing their marketing strategies to fit better with the changing art world view. They want to show the world that art is not just for the elite, is it for everyone. To do this, they are making their galleries interactive by adding games to their tours. Many are hosting evening hours, and free admission during some parts of the day. All of this is done to expand the dialogue between the curators and directors and the somewhat intimidated public. These museum officials are even asking the patrons their opinions on curatorial issues and explaining how show are chosen. Hosting concerts and events not associated with the museum is also brings in visitors who wouldn't normally visit a museum. We at LoPressionism Gallery have been doing this for years and it is great to see that museums are doing so as well! For more information on what museums are doing to make their galleries more accessible click here. |
