DARK DREAMS & LIGHTHEARTED THEMES OPENING RECEPTION
Spring is here, and we're excited to celebrate the season of new life with our new show, Dark Dreams & Lighthearted Themes. With fanciful paintings that reach into our imaginative sides, the show will feature works by Luke Andrews, Marina Koloeridi, Sandra Bottinelli, Nicholas Bustamante & Laura Beatty. The opening reception will be held on April 17th from 6-9pm at LoPressionism Gallery in the building we share with the Christmas Cottage. Whimsy and the sublime are reality and dreams come to life in a world of fantasy. Here you can find hope and humor in darkness, and be calmed by light and laughter. Imaginative landscapes and bizarre characters fill this show with danger and delight. Call (321) 722-6000 for details. This exhibit will run from April 17th to June 19th. I am always trying to top myself, to push the envelope and take it to the next level. These paintings are the result of an intense period of hibernation and experimentation. I was constantly playing with concepts, images and techniques. I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I enjoyed creating them.” To view The White Album, click here.

THE ARTS INCLUDED IN NEW STIMULUS PLAN
For ages the government has barely recognized the arts as a viable sector of the economy. However, in February, congress managed to get $50 million dollars for the arts in the stimulus package. According to an article in the April 2009 issue of Art in America, "despite years of economic-impact studies showing how the arts stimulate local economies, from tourism dollars to construction industry jobs, arts groups still had to mount a feverish campaign to preserve a $50 million line that the House had passed but that the Senate eliminated." Although 50 million is measly compared to what other industries have received it is wonderful that the arts were even included. What many fail to realize is that not only do the arts employ artists and performers, but also art handlers, stage crews, accountants, cooks, security guards, maintenance people and more. The arts provide over 6 million jobs nationwide! The money will go to the National Endowment for the Arts to distribute in the form of grants only to non-profit groups whose projects focus on the preservation of jobs in the arts. These groups must also have been awarded NEA grants within the last 4 years. Not to fret to the groups who have not received grants, they still may be eligible to get a sub-grant from a state or regional arts organization. For complete information on The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act with regards to the NEA visit nea.gov.

HOW TO MAKE NEATO EASTER EGGS
First begin with hard boiled eggs, then you can:
Make your own food color dye: Combine 1/2 to 1 Tablespoon of food coloring with 2 tsp. vinegar in a cup that is deep enough for the eggs. Add water to about the half way point. Gently place the eggs into the cups. The longer they are left in the dye, the darker the color shade. Experiment with different combinations of colors. When you remove the egg from the dye, pat dry with a paper towel and place in a holder.
Rubber Band Designs: Wrap elastic bands around the eggs, then drop them in food-coloring dye. Remove eggs, pat dry with paper towel and remove rubber bands. The parts of the egg covered with rubber bands will not be colored. Once the rubber bands are removed, you can drop the egg into a different color dye.
Marbled Eggs: In a mug or jar large enough to contain one egg, place 1 Tablespoon of oil, 1 Tablespoon of vinegar and 1 Tablespoon of food coloring. Add enough water to cover egg, stir quickly with a spoon and drop in hard boiled egg. Pull egg out quickly and pat dry with paper towel.
Waxing Easter Eggs: Drip wax from a lit taper candle onto the egg. After the wax is set, drop the egg into food coloring dye. Remove from dye and pat dry. You can scrape the wax off and dip into another dye, or leave the wax on if you wish.

Remember to have fun and have a happy Easter!
