NEW ARTIST - FRANK GABRIEL We are proud to introduce the works of Frank Gabriel to the gallery. Frank has been creating hand carved wooden fish for the last 20 years. His unique interpretation of these underwater creatures is a great addition to the Florida lifestyle. Each piece is meticulously hand stained with different colored wood stains that match the species, and completed with taxidermist quality glass eyes. The works can be seen in our boutique at the Christmas Cottage. |

CANDLELIGHT SHOPPING It is that time of year again. Why hit the crowded malls, when you can enjoy the crisp night air and the wonderful customer service of local store owners? Instead, take to the streets of Downtown Melbourne for an enjoyable holiday shopping experience. We know it can sometimes be difficult to get into the winter mood here in Florida, but Melbourne Main Street's 8th Annual Candlelight Shopping will help! Participating shops extend their hours to 9pm on the Saturdays evenings between Thanksgiving and Christmas, November 29th, December 6th, 13th, and 20th. Some of the shops even enjoy serving holiday refreshments and snacks to guests. Melbourne Main Street also provides various forms of sidewalk entertainment each Saturday evening including musicians, choirs and bands, and a horse and carriage! Santa will be present in Campbell Park for photo opportunities with your little ones near the decorated 18 foot Christmas tree each Candlelight Shopping night. Stroll the casual, lit streets and feel the holiday spirit as you shop, dine, and partake in the comfort of Historic Downtown Melbourne. |

SHOULD YOU MARKET YOUR ART THROUGH A GALLERY? We recently received an e-mail from Eric Rhoads, Publisher of Artist Advocate Magazine, about the benefits of having a gallery represent your art work. These are only a few reasons which he gave when considering gallery representation. 1. Galleries have professional consultants who know how to talk about art. 2. Galleries know the art market. Based on the research that we do, we can find a way to fit your work into client presentations based on this knowledge. 3. Galleries can give artists valuable advice. We know what is selling -- what sizes, what styles, what subjects. 4. Galleries can MAKE an artist. 5. Galleries can increase awareness. We can touch more people than most artists can on their own. 6. Artists gain credibility by affiliation. Being represented by a reputable gallery is a great addition to an artist's resume. 7. Galleries can free up your time. If we are doing all the marketing and selling for an artist, they have more time to create! 8. Galleries have infrastructure. We already accept credit cards, have computerized data bases, and shipping, so that artists don't need to worry about the extras. If you are thinking about gallery representation, consider the above list. Also remember when submitting your portfolio to follow each gallery's submission instructions, or you run the risk of having your portfolio lost or ignored. Most of all, be professional and respectful, and the gallery will be sure to act the same! To view more relevant information from Artist Advocate Magazine, click here. |

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! T'was the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep... I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep. The leftovers beckoned...the dark meat and white, but I fought the temptation with all of my might. Tossing and turning with anticipation, the thought of a snack became infatuation. So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door and gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore. I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes, stuffing with gravy, green beans and tomatoes. I felt myself swelling so plump and so round, till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground. I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky with a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees... Happy eating to all -- pass the cranberries, please. |
