MOTHER'S DAY GIFTS UNDER $100.00
Treat your adoring mom to something new this Sunday! Instead of giving her the same "comfortable" gift year to year or another pair of stunning earrings that are for "special occasions only," dress your mom up with some fashionable, modern, everyday jewelry. The pieces shown on the left, by Karl, are made of anodized aluminum and are so lightweight that she'll forget she's wearing it until someone gives her a complement about the piece. The Christophe Poly jewelry shown on the right is incredibly easy to put on and to take care of. Let your gift be the first thing she pulls out of the jewelry box everyday knowing that it's the only piece she wants to wear! Of course, if she insists on special occasion jewelry, we have that too!

Spiritual Journey
WHAT SHE MEANS TO YOU
Mother's Day isn't just a day for kids to rejoice in the gift of life that was given to them. It's the perfect time to express the appreciation of a woman who willingly and happily gives her whole self to the creation of a child. Make this year special, and show the mother of your child how it is her pure essence that makes her the wonderful mother and breathtaking woman that she is. She may be "mom" to the kids, but to her loving partner, she is the "Spiritual Journey" or the "Golden Aura" that keeps the family centered and whole. These pieces by artist Henry Asencio, make great additions to any room in the home. As striking centerpieces for the bedroom, they 'll remind your perfect woman what she means to you at the start of each day and again at the very end of it.

STEPPIN' OUT
This new sculpture by artist, Russ Taylor, epitomizes what Russ' artwork is all about. Fun, boldly colorful and full of life, the cast resin 9" high by 6" wide piece makes you smile everytime you see it. Each sculpture is hand painted by the artist who is known to call himself a frustrated musician. The love he has for music shows in the way he creates his art. The sculptures are limited to an edition of 50 and the first three have already been spoken for. Each piece comes signed and numbered with a certificate of authenticity. Russ begins by sculpting the original out of clay, a two part mold is then built over the original sculpture, and resin is poured into the dry mold. Once the resin hardens, it is primed, painted and sealed. The first mold takes about one month to complete. And, because the sculpture is made of resin, it stays in the artist's studio and hands from start to finish.

DOODLES DEADLINE APPROACHING
With the submission deadline a little less than a month away, the gallery staff is thrilled to see what kinds of works Brevard County art students are producing. Submission packets are to be received at our gallery no later than June 6, 2008. The show will run for a full ten weeks beginning July 25 and ending September 30. UNDERSTANDING & PAINTING ABSTRACTION
What is the purpose of abstractions and how do you realize your concept? "Abstraction is something that summarizes or concentrates the essentials of a large thing or several things." So Sayeth Webster. So Sayeth Samuelson. This 18 hour, 3 day workshop, instructed by Fred Samuelson, will have an exciting appeal experimenting with various painting surfaces using watercolors or acrylics. The workshop will progress from sketch development through the elimination of perspective without the loss of representational images. Students will learn to identify the subject and emphasize it... a path to perfect painting! You will also be instructed on how to redesign your image and use personal color. Students are asked to bring sketches and material to use in their painting. A materials list will be provided upon registration, and a one hour lunch break will be taken from 12 - 1pm on each day of the workshop.

"You are your own light source - the space is yours - abstractions are fantasies of the mind. However, to make it work, you must develop a language of physical symbols that fit the new world you have created."

PAINTING THE FIGURE
One of the greatest teachers is the human form. You can never say, 'This time I really know what I'm doing.' It's everchanging and constantly challenging. In this 3 day, 18 hour workshop taught by Rose Ann Samuelson, not only will you improve your painting skills but you will learn how to develop your imagination. Rose Ann will instruct you in placing your figure in a scene to tell a story. There will be no live nude model, however the instructor will provide enough photos for each person to choose 3 or 4 to work from. The idea is not to simply illustrate. This workshop will distance you from the subject matter, making the image more complex. The figure will be drawn or painted in a situation rather than a pose. Students will be free to work with whatever media they choose, but please bring your supplies with you. No need to worry about packing up those portable easels though, we have plenty to use here at the gallery. A one hour lunch break will be taken from 12 - 1pm on each day of the workshop. A $20 non-refundable deposit is required upon registration to hold your spot.

"Painting is a constant struggle, striving endlessly to understand composition wiping out, starting over, experimenting with new ideas, never leaving behind the most important element...good drawing."

GOING DIGITAL FOR ARTISTS
"Going Digital for Artists" teaches anyone, especially artists, who need to photograph their work, format it electronically to submit to art shows, galleries, or trade shows, and upload photos using "Zapplication." - Zapp is an online image submission process many venues are now using to jury images. "Slides are quickly becoming a thing of the past", as Brian Abrahamson, fine art photographer and instructor for this course describes. Our workshop will bring computer novice artists into the digital age in a friendly and comfortable venue. Basic computer navigation skills are a pre-requisite for this workshop.

Students must register with a $20.00 non-refundable fee ahead of time to receive the software in advance. It works on both Mac & PC platforms. Load the software onto your computer according to the instructions we provide and become a little familiar with it before coming to class if you can. Bring your laptop or desktop computer to class with you if you like! The class is held on a Saturday afternoon with a one and a half hour lunch break. This workshop is eligible for a minimum of 5 Teacher inservice points!

DUTCH MASTER
This piece is approximately 16" high x 20" wide, not including the frame. It is believed to be an original oil painting by 17th Century Dutch artist, "Stap" Jan Woutersz. There is no authentication documentation, but the canvas appears to be of linen, and although aged, is in good condition. The piece is signed and with no edition number indicating an original work. It was retrieved from a warehouse in Miami, FL near the art district. Brush strokes are clearly evident. There is a bronze colored placard at the bottom of the frame that reads "Hebreew Reeding - Jan Woutersz 1599-1663. If you would like to learn more about the work, contact the gallery at 321-722-6000 or 888-581-ARTS (2787).

ART IS FOR EVERYONE
A few days ago, this artist was brought to our attention via email and he shows how true our motto is "Art is for Everyone." Stephen Wiltshire was born in April of 1974. As a child, Stephen didn't speak and had a hard time relating to others. At three, he was diagnosed with autism. While Stephen was in school, his passion for art emerged. His teachers encouraged him to speak by temporarily taking away his drawing materials so he would have to ask for them. His first word was paper. Today Stephen is known worldwide for his amazingly detailed drawings. The artist, who is often taken on aerial tours of different cities around the world, can in a matter of a few days, draw nearly exact replicas of what he was shown for less than an hour. Stephen's achievements have been documented with video. A short video on the artist can be found by clicking here.

FAMOUS MOTHERS
James McNeill Whistler's best known painting, often called "Whistler's Mother," is actually titled "Arrangement in Black and Gray: The Artist's Mother."

Raphael, the most important portrait artist in Rome during the Renaissance changed the way people thought of the Madonna because his portraiture involved emotional themes and personality.
