THE FINE SILVER OF KELLEY DRAGON
When Kelley began creating art, she found that her strength lies within working with metal. Kelley's work is inspired by nature as she forms small scale natural pieces that are delicate in appearance yet structurally sound. Motifs such as leaves, insects wings and spider webs can be found over and over again in her work. Kelley also creates and weaves the silver chains that accompany most of her pendants. Her chains can contain up to 40 feet of silver wire, and her weaving technique doesn't require a solder. The fine silver in each of her filigree pieces is also made from the artist's own twisted wire which is soldered from an ancient recipe. Kelley's intricate and ornate silver designs make her work stand out amongst the rest.

TRANSITION & ENDEAVOR
Two new Henry Asencio fine art limited edition prints, “Transition” pictured on the left and “Endeavor” shown on the right are about to make their way into the art world. Each piece is sized at 30" high x 20" wide and will be offered at their pre-publication price for only a limited amount of time. This stunning pair is the perfect addition or beginning to your growing Asencio collection! Henry has achieved a new level in his painting allowing the grace of classical poses to contrast with his bold use of color and brush strokes. The women in the paintings embody the sense of modesty and elegance against a chaotic background and continue to show Henry's main theme. Amongst everything that goes on around us, it is the woman and her essence that keeps things centered and whole. Henry continues to transform today's ideals of elegance and contemporary sensuality. To view more of Henry's work, click here or stop by the gallery during our regular hours.

HEATHER EVERETT
Artist Heather Everett has been invited to LoPressionism Gallery as our newest Resident Artist. Recently she was featured in the article "The Natural" in SPACES Magazine's May/June 2008 issue. Heather who has shown her work from Miami to Paris is well known in the area for her dynamic paintings of palm trees. And, when asked why she chooses them as her subject, she replies "I like to use the palm as a symbol of life ...common in Florida but essential to its beauty." She believes that there is a beauty to find in everything and loves experimenting with new materials and techniques in her artwork. To get a sample of the artist's works, click here or stop by the gallery and take home a piece that you'll enjoy for years to come.

Rotate, crop, color correct, resize to 1920 x 1920... What does all this mean???

WHAT DOES 1920 X 1920 PIXELS MEAN?
NEW PHOTO FORMATTING & COLOR CORRECTING SERVICE
With all of the Art Festivals quickly approaching, we've recently received inquiries from artists about how to format and color correct images of their artwork for art show submissions. We've come up with a new service for just this purpose, and hope that it will relieve some of the stress of reaching your deadlines. The staff at LoPressionism will color correct and format your artwork for $25.00 per image. Just send us the electronic file of your work along with your contact information, at least a week in advance of when you need it, and we'll have it back to you, ready to be sent out or uploaded in no time at all. If you're the do-it-yourself type, but don't know where to begin, we've got a Going Digital for Artists workshop scheduled August 16th that teaches you these things and more. See the Workshops below for details.

MEET LIZ
We would all like to welcome our new Art Consultant, Liz who joined the LoPressionism team at the beginning of June. Liz DeSerio graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Central Florida in 2007. While studying for her Bachelor's she enjoyed an internship with the Orlando Museum of Art, and worked with an Orlando gallery before making her big move to Melbourne, FL. It was time to get out of the city and close to the ocean to see with her own eyes the wonderful local art community that she had been hearing about! She has been enjoying all of the arts from an early age and is as excited about becoming a part of the LoPressionism family as we are to have her.

UNDERSTANDING & PAINTING ABSTRACTION
What is the purpose of abstractions and how do you realize your concept? "Abstraction is something that summarizes or concentrates the essentials of a large thing or several things." So Sayeth Webster. So Sayeth Samuelson. This 18 hour, 3 day workshop, instructed by Fred Samuelson, will have an exciting appeal experimenting with various painting surfaces using watercolors or acrylics. The workshop will progress from sketch development through the elimination of perspective without the loss of representational images. Students will learn to identify the subject and emphasize it... a path to perfect painting! You will also be instructed on how to redesign your image and use personal color. Students are asked to bring sketches and material to use in their painting. A materials list will be provided upon registration, and a one hour lunch break will be taken from 12 - 1pm on each day of the workshop.

"You are your own light source - the space is yours - abstractions are fantasies of the mind. However, to make it work, you must develop a language of physical symbols that fit the new world you have created."

Dates: Fri, Sat & Sun. July 18, 19, & 20th from 9am -4pm.

Cost: $165.00 includes a $20 non-refundable deposit required upon registration.

PAINTING THE FIGURE
One of the greatest teachers is the human form. You can never say, 'This time I really know what I'm doing.' It's everchanging and constantly challenging. In this 3 day, 18 hour workshop taught by Rose Ann Samuelson, not only will you improve your painting skills but you will learn how to develop your imagination. Rose Ann will instruct you in placing your figure in a scene to tell a story. There will be no live nude model, however the instructor will provide enough photos for each person to choose 3 or 4 to work from. The idea is not to simply illustrate. This workshop will distance you from the subject matter, making the image more complex. The figure will be drawn or painted in a situation rather than a pose. Students will be free to work with whatever media they choose, but please bring your supplies with you. No need to worry about packing up those portable easels though, we have plenty to use here at the gallery. A one hour lunch break will be taken from 12 - 1pm on each day of the workshop. A $20 non-refundable deposit is required upon registration to hold your spot.

"Painting is a constant struggle, striving endlessly to understand composition wiping out, starting over, experimenting with new ideas, never leaving behind the most important element...good drawing."

ORPHAN WORKS ACT
A bill which affects artists and their work is currently in the House of Senate waiting for majority approval. The bill is cited as the Orphan Works Act of 2008 and can be downloaded, and viewed from the illustratorspartnership.org (click here for details). From what we have gathered from various resources, Under Orphan Works law your work could be declared an orphan even if you have registered it. The proposed Orphan Works Act of 2008 would have the effect of depriving certain creators of the ability to enforce their copyrights because they did not take steps that the Copyright Act of 1976 did not require them to take giving infringers the legal means to use a design without the copyright holder’s permission, and it does not safeguard to prevent one from fraudulently registering work they do not own. Here are a couple of things that can be done to be sure that your view on the bill is heard: 1. Write a letter to your congressional House leader and Senators stating your opinion of the bills. Send the letter both by e-mail and fax. 2. Help raise awareness about the potential consequences of this legislation, and ask everyone you know to write and send letters.

HOW NOT TO APPROACH A GALLERY:
Greetings
My name is Bolgaldimere Mocklockovitzer. The 1st. In the art community I am known as "Opelio". So you will call me that. I am new to the area and a very famous and lucrative artist. I was referred to your wonderful gallery in hopes of your representation of my alternative works of art. I see you are expanding and preparing to open a store front below your beautifully decorated gallery upstairs. This would be the perfect location to display all of my art. I can offer you an exclusive contract limited geographically to the 1st three blocks west of the railroad tracks as my sole rep in that area. I understand you have strict submission guidelines that I obviously will not be required to follow after you see how wonderful and diversified my collection is. I would require the entire space as well as the window display area in your new store.

Most of my representatives pay me a monthly retainer of $2800.00 just to display my works. Any sales thereafter are split 85/15. That's 85% for me. I'm sure after you see my latest works in person you will agree and be eager to sign the contract I have prepared for you. My time is limited so I will be needing you and the owner to be available this Sunday at 7:45pm to commute to my facility to peruse through my body of work. Although photographs don't do my work any justice I have attached a PDF of some of my finer pieces. As you can see I am well skilled and extremely diversified. I have several galleries in your immediate area considering all of my work and would require your full cooperation and immediate response.

Sincerely,
Bolgaldimere Mocklockovitzer
I Am..... "Opelio"

- Thank you to our dear "practical joker" friends for keeping us laughing with this!
