IT'S FAUX REAL - Opening Jan. 25, 6pm - 9pm Decide for yourself where the line is drawn between fantasy and reality. Each of the artists paints their interpretations of fantasy or reality as their minds take over to create completely original works of art. From the Friday evening opening January 25th at 6:00pm through March 30th, we will be presenting the imaginative landscapes by Nancy Dillen of Eau Gallie, historical paintings by Catherine Wicks of Melbourne/France, the life-assertive works by Sandra de Nijs of Orlando/Holland, and the small folk images by Igor Gorban of New York/ Ukraine. The night of the opening, viewers can help fulfill the fantasy of the Precision Contemporary Dance Company of performing on stage again. Precision Contemporary is the non-profit organization that will receive 100% of the proceeds from the gift basket that will be raffled off that evening. |

NEW LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS LoPressionism Gallery is now carrying the works of Internationally acclaimed American artist Charles H. Pabst who is heralded for his breathtaking masterpieces. His art shows have been sellouts throughout the country since the 1980s. He notes, "One of my favorite things about painting is to be able to take a trip in my mind; combine fact and fantasy to create an inspirational place to be." Pabst interprets monumental vistas and breathtaking scenery to reflect the calm command and intimate knowledge he has of his subject matter. |

YOUR INNER CHAMELEON! Coming late this spring, we will be offering a color theory workshop with a focus in painting. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned artist, this workshop will give you practice mixing and understanding color. Do your paintings look flat? It's probably because you're not exercising the power of complimentary colors - We'll teach you these terms and definitions, the color wheel, color tricks and their psychological, personal, and emotional implications. The gallery has plenty of easels onsite, so you won't have to lug yours with you. We've not yet solidified a date, however if you would like to be placed on our waiting list, give us a call or send us an email. We're also taking day and time suggestions so that those of you interested will have the opportunity to take the workshop during a time that works for you. |

ARTE DEL PERÚ Rebelling against the ideals of arts of the time, Angel Chavez's persistence drove him to exhibit his works in Lima, Mexico, Chile, and New York, and it marked him as one of the most influential masters of Peruvian modern artwork. Many of Chavez's works, as "Calor" (pictured left) and "Danza Tropical" (pictured right) are of his local environment. He used colors which make the viewers feel the warmth of the location and folkloric scenes exposing us to the culture of his land. Works by this artist belong to the Nation's Cultural Patrimony of Peru meaning that current works of his that are sold, can not leave Peru. The works shown are are available for purchase in the United States. For further information on each of the pieces and the artists, click here. |

HOT HUES Dull and bland colors are finally a thing of the past. So, what’s in store for the future? Full spectrum color... According to Christine Chow, director of membership for The Color Association of the United States, “It’s a world of multicolor. Colors do not exist alone. As Americans embrace more color in their everyday lives, they’re more adventurous about color combinations and unusual color effects.” When it comes to fine art, furniture, or the paint on your walls, no one or two colors will be marked as ‘hot’ for the 2008 - 2009 season. With the nation's growing interest in "going green," look for colors and designs that lead to nature. From the Far East color source, watch for "eastern cool" with an interest in metallics that are hammered and patinated. The Indian Market brings vibrant colors related to fruits and vegetables with oversized ethnic prints, and the New England Shores color source focuses on beachy, dreamy colors with a rustic elegance. Based on the article "Trend Tracker Highlights Hot Hues" from the November 2007 issue of Art World News. |

Old Age is a gift. I am now, for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be. Oh, not my body! I sometimes despair over the wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the sagging butt. And often I am taken aback by that old person in my mirror (who looks like my mother!), but I don't agonize over those things for long. I would never trade my amazing friends, wonderful life, loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become my own friend. |
I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avant garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant. Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful hits, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love... I will. |
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old. I am sometimes forgetful. But, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things. Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. |
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day. (If I feel like it) Taken from an email submitted by: |
