NEW ADDITIONS TO BOUTIQUE ROCOCO Jewelry artist, Christophe Poly, sees beauty in everyday objects. With his eye for shape and function, a simple rubber washer becomes a flexible ribbon. A chunk of aluminum unfolds into a shimmering core of light. All components become a balanced piece in which no single part stands out. Each piece is created in a three dimensional architectural process using equipment that he invented and built himself. The current line by Seegers & Fein Glass, a husband and wife team, consists of paperweights and vessels containing exploding bubbles and ethereal veils. These patterns and colors are the result of manipulations of glasses which contain dissolved metals including silver, copper, nickel, tin and cobalt. The creative process is what attracts Richard Seegers and Donna Fein who use both modern technology and traditional glassblowing techniques. To see more of their works, stop by the gallery or check out our online boutique by clicking here. |

UNDERSTANDING & PAINTING ABSTRACTION What is the purpose of abstractions and how do you realize your concept? "Abstraction is something that summarizes or concentrates the essentials of a large thing or several things." So Sayeth Webster. So Sayeth Samuelson. This 18 hour, 3 day workshop, instructed by Fred Samuelson, will have an exciting appeal experimenting with various painting surfaces using watercolors or acrylics. The workshop will progress from sketch development through the elimination of perspective without the loss of representational images. Students will learn to identify the subject and emphasize it... a path to perfect painting! You will also be instructed on how to redesign your image and use personal color. Students are asked to bring sketches and material to use in their painting. A materials list will be provided upon registration, and a one hour lunch break will be taken from 12 - 1pm on each day of the workshop. "You are your own light source - the space is yours - abtractions are fantasies of the mind. However, to make it work, you must develop a language of physical symbols that fit the new world you have created. |
Dates: Fri, Sat & Sun. July 18, 19, & 20th from 9am -4pm Cost: $165.00 includes a $20 non-refundable deposit |

ORIGINAL WATERCOLORS The framed original watercolor, shown on the left, by artist Valerie Frick displays beautifully blooming carnations intertwined with a country style lattice. The piece is protected and enhanced by an ornate gold toned frame accenting the Romantic style of the painting. The image measures 33" high x 26" wide. It is a perfect combination of the romantic and avant-garde. The original framed watercolor shown on the right is by Melbourne Beach artist, Carol Fitzsimmons. The work is untitled and measures 32" high x 30" wide. It has a floating matte. The work depicts an intricately carved marble archway. Realistic in technique, it is surreal in style with floral, butterfly, and fish motifs. The painting makes one think of nature's purity and warmth. FRAMING DESIGN Choosing the right frame for your image is often a very difficult decision. If you've purchased a work from an artist, they probably sold it to you with a frame already on it, but the artist has most likely chosen the frame for it's cost, not because they believe it works best. A certified framer can design beautiful frames to accent the artwork and protect it, but they usually have no idea of what the space is like that the work will be displayed. So when deciding on which mat, fillet, and molding to place around your image, remember that it is your tastes and style that come first. Here are some tips from Suzanne Gallagher, the Wall Design Diva. "Begin with an image you love." When it comes to framing, remember that the image should remain the focus. "Don't just frame your art, preserve it!" Light damage from the sun's ultraviolet rays can not be undone. "The frame is the most cost variable part of the framing investment. Look for quality and value." If we were to unfold our house walls, the space would easily be more than twice as much as our floor space. Artwork is furniture for your walls. Not every blank space needs to be covered, but framed art is a good way to make rooms flow from one to the next and help center the home. |
Above is an example of a traditional frame accenting the contemporary painting, "Illumination" by artist Henry Asencio. |

JOKE After his wife divorced him, Joe asked his best friend, Bill, to fix him up with a blind date. Bill obliged. The next day Joe called up Bill and shouted at him angrily: "Bill, what kind of a guy do you think I am. That girl you fixed me up with was cross-eyed; she was almost bald; her nose was long, thin and crooked; she had hair growing on her face; she was flat chested; and her ankles were as thick as her thighs". Bill answered: "Either you like Picasso, or you don't like Picasso." |
