A WONDERFUL WELCOME!
On Thursday, October 25th, LoPressionism had the honor of hosting nationally renowned artist, Henry Asencio. We would like to thank those who attended for making the event a great success! During the evening, the artist spoke with patrons, created a charcoal sketch from a live model and even had "sexy time" showing us some of his dance moves. He was also kind enough to hand sign each of the limited editions at the gallery on the back of the canvas. We are currently one of only 12 galleries which has Henry Asencio original paintings on site. They will only be here until November 25th, so if you haven't seen them yet, stop in soon! It is with the community's support that we hope to bring even more top artists to Melbourne.

FEAST FOR THE EYES
We would like to thank everyone who helped make our first Latin themed art show honoring those who have passed on, such a success. The response was wonderful like this one: "I just wanted to let you know...how LOVELY it was of you to have the Challenger folk on your 'altar.' I was moved...thank you...your actions, or the actions of your "employees" -- nevermind...you had the GOOD sense to hire them!....your "choice(s)" showed me...that you have an extraordinary soul...thank you and know I admire you...more than I can express..." - From an email written by the lovely Susan Taylor.

6 WEEKS of PRECIOUS METAL CLAY - The basics and beyond!
Whether you've already had an introductory PMC class, or a more advanced one, this 6-week session makes the perfect gift for you or anyone! We've had so many requests for different levels of PMC training that Linda Kline has offered to dedicate Thursdays to us starting January 31st through March 6th so she can combine all levels and a variety of projects in one course!

Precious Metal Clay (PMC) has revolutionized jewelry making.  A user-friendly medium, PMC looks, acts and feels like clay but is pulverized granules of pure silver (.999).  New students will learn basic techniques to produce exquisite jewelry designs of pure, fine silver.  Returning students are invited to use this class as an open studio while learning new and advanced techniques.  The instructor will collect a materials fee of $95 at the first session, which includes a basic tool kit and enough silver to complete at least three designs.  Additional silver will be available for sale. A different technique/jewelry project will be covered each week.

Register by January 20th for either Thursday afternoons, 2-5 p.m. OR Thursday evenings, 6-9 p.m.
Cost is $150.00 per person for the entire 6 weeks, which includes a $20.00 non-refundable registration fee.

PRIVATE ACRYLIC PAINTING LESSONS
Award winning artist, Russ Taylor who honed his talents at Ringling School of Art & Design, is offering private one-on-one instruction in his Indialantic studio. This is for artists of any skill level interested in exploring new ways of painting. Many of the acrylic painting techniques can be applied to watercolors and oils. Andy Warhol's Liz
"LIZ" TO SELL FOR $25MILLION
BBC News has reported that the Andy Warhol portrait of Dame Elizabeth Taylor is expected to sell for more than 25 million dollars. The work, being auctioned in New York by Christie's for a private collector, is one of 12 paintings of the actress completed by Warhol. It is similar to the works he produced of Jackie Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe at around the same time, 1963. The sale is expected to exceed over the 25 million dollar mark after a record for Warhol's pieces was set in May when "Green Car Crash" sold for more than 70 million. "Liz" and "Green Car Crash" are both offset lithograph prints, and many of Warhol's pieces were worked on by apprentices. The value of a print can only be estimated, as "Green Car Crash" was expected to sell for $35 million less than what it actually sold for. However, Warhol's auctioned works are another example that limited edition prints almost always rise in value. In the current art market, many limited edition prints that are being bought from galleries such as LoPressionism, are being sought after on the secondary market by collectors. The worth of a work of art is how essential it becomes in making one happy.

"EMERGING MASTERS" STUDENT ART EXHIBIT
Are you in middle school, high school or college? Then sharpen those pencils, break out the paints and start going the extra mile in your art classes because we are announcing our plans to hold an annual art exhibit for Brevard County students only, the summer of 2008. The purpose of the exhibit is to give students a real-life learning experience in the competitive art business world. Any student interested in being in the event must send a submission packet, and a letter of reference from a current art teacher. ONLY 10 STUDENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED! Students who are accepted into the show must be present for a short marketing workshop two weeks before the opening. This is not an awards show, this is a real-life chance to sell art, and a way for serious emerging artists to begin building their fine art resumé in a professional art gallery. More details about what a submission packet includes is found here. We'll be posting more information and deadline dates as we solidify the plans!

Norman Rockwell's "Freedom From Want"
THE PUMPKIN - J. G. WHITTIER
Ah! On Thanksgiving Day, when from East and from West,
From North and from South come the pilgrim and guest,
When the gray-haired New Englander sees round his board
The old broken links of affection restored,
When the care-wearied man seeks his mother once more,
And the worn matron smiles where the girl smiled before,
What moistens the lip, and what brightens the eye?
What calls back the past, like the rich pumpkin pie?
O, fruit loved of boyhood! the old days recalling;
When wood-grapes were purpling and brown nuts were falling!
When wild, ugly faces were carved in its skin,
Glaring out through the dark with a candle within!
When we laughed round the corn heap, with hearts all in tune,
Our chair a broad pumpkin, our lantern the moon,
Telling tales of the fairy who traveled like steam
In a pumpkin-shell coach, with two rats for her team!
Then, thanks for thy present! - none sweeter or better
E'er smoked from an oven or circled a platter!
Fairer hands never wrought at a pastry more fine,
Brighter eyes never watched o'er its baking than thine!
And the prayer, which my mouth is too full to express,
Swells my heart that thy shadow may never be less,
That the days of thy lot may be lengthened below,
And the fame of thy worth like a pumpkin-vine grow,
And thy life be as sweet, and its last sunset sky
Gold-tinted and fair as thine own pumpkin-pie!
